Reta Nicholson

Reta Bell Horton Nicholson died October 30, 2016 in Kyle Texas. Reta was born on January 27, 1930 in Mills County Texas to Elton and Linnie Horton. She grew up in Caradan, Texas. She graduated from Goldthwaite High School in 1947 and was named "Most Beautiful Senior Girl". On January 14, 1950, Reta married the love of her life, Thomas Edwin Nicholson. She and Edwin lived in San Saba Texas where they raised their three daughters- Charlot, Sharon and Shelia. They were married 35 years at the time of Edwin's death on November 18, 1985. Reta remained in San Saba until shortly prior to her death. Reta worked for many years at the San Saba Animal Hospital. After retirement, her job became baby sitting Tanner Hawkins. She had as much love for Tanner and pride in his accomplishments as she did her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Reta was a quiet woman of simple needs. She was most happy when working out in her yard. She loved getting all the family together for holidays and birthdays. Of course, Reta insisted on doing the cooking! She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was also a loving dog parent over the years to Fifi, Sassy, Dee Dee and Tammy. Reta is survived by : (2) daughters - Charlot DeHoyos (and husband Pete) of Giddings Texas and Shelia McLaurin (and husband Johnny) of Kyle Texas, (1) brother - Roger Horton (and wife Betty) of Goldthwaite Texas, (1) sister-in-law - Ruth Horton of Corpus Christi, Texas (3) grandsons - Aaron Lively ( and wife Christel) of Mason Texas, Brad McQueen (and wife Kimberly) of St.Louis, Missouri and Cody Ross of Brownwood Texas, (1) granddaughter - Beverly Garza (and husband Richard) of Giddings, Texas and (9) great grandchildren - Leah, Patty, Whitley, Loren, Nicholas, Zayne, Dominic, Brinley and Riley. Reta was preceded in death by her parents, Elton and Linnie Horton, husband Edwin Nicholson, daughter Sharon Ross, son-in-law Manny Ross and brother, George L. Horton. Reta's family would like to send a special Thank You to Orchard Park Assisted Living of Kyle and New Century Hospice and both their wonderful staff for the love and kindness shown to our mother.
